Changing for good

Ci troviamo spesso a pensare di voler cambiare qualcosa della nostra vita, per es. iniziare a fare sport, assumere abitudini alimentari sane, comunicare in maniera assertiva, fare delle scelte in maniera più consapevole…la lista potrebbe continuare all’infinito…
Ancora più spesso facciamo esperienza di non riuscire a mettere a fuoco da dove cominciare, oppure abbiamo difficoltà ad effettuare il primo passo. Capita di pensare che il primo comportamento di cambiamento che riusciamo a mettere in atto implichi già quel “per sempre”, “definitivo” che suggerisce il titolo, sperimentando poi, un senso di frustrazione per non essere in grado di sostenere e mantenere il nuovo comportamento.
“Changing for good” nasce dall’esigenza dell’autore di capire quali elementi e strategie accomunano coloro che riescono a raggiungere un obiettivo di cambiamento senza il supporto del counseling o della terapia, e suggerisce un modello transteorico, cioè trasversale rispetto ai vari approcci psicologi, che possa rispondere alla necessità di una teoria generale del cambiamento.
Tale modello è composto da 6 fasi: pre-contemplazione, contemplazione, preparazione, azione, mantenimento, conclusione. Ciascuna fase è funzionale a quella successiva e ci permette di passare dall’idea di spostarci da “dove siamo” , fino ad arrivare a “dove vogliamo essere”, attraverso la messa in atto di comportamenti consapevoli ed efficaci.
“Changing for good” è un libro di auto, che ci supporta nel comprendere quanto sia importante, ancora prima di agire, avere chiaro dove siamo rispetto a ciò che vogliamo raggiungere, in quale fase del cambiamento ci troviamo, e quali siano gli strumenti più adatti a esplorare e superare quella specifica fase, per passare poi a quella successiva.
Nonostante sia ricco di esempi legati alle dipendenze e alla depressione, ritengo sia molto utile, perché descrive un modello trasversale, applicabile ad ogni situazione di cambiamento della vita quotidiana.
Lo consiglio sia a chi desidera avere uno strumento efficace di consapevolezza e azione, da utilizzare per motivarsi e agire un cambiamento, sia ai counselor, per facilitare il cliente a riconoscere la fase in cui si trova e a supportarlo utilzzando, strumenti di intervento adeguati alla fase in cui si trova il cliente.
Un libro, inoltre, che sottolinea l’importanza di riconoscere i nostri bisogni e prenderci il tempo necessario affinché il cambiamento avvenga nel rispetto di ogni fase. E ci ricorda che siamo umani, che gli errori, le ricadute, i passi indietro, sono occasione ulteriore di monitoraggio del processo, di valorizzazione di ciò che è stato fatto e, davvero, strumento di auto-conoscenza e auto-consapevolezza, miglioramento e crescita continua.
